THAT'S NOT AN ARTICHOKE

Never go to a big grocery store chain in the USA when you are hungry.  There is so much to choose from that you might just burst a blood vessel in your head.  We have nothing like this where I have been living in South America.  I simply had to take a photo of the hummus section. It was amazing.

Anyway, this morning I had to restock the frig.  It's the summer solstice today and time to switch over to summer salads. I drove over to SHAW'S SUPERMARKET.  That is not a NEW DO.  In fact, I have been there a gazillion, trillion times before.  I knew I needed to find a DO NEW for the day.  I also knew that I had a busy afternoon with clients and then later in the evening I would be at a Spanish language practice group.  There wasn't a big space of time in between appointments.  As I was scouring the produce section for interesting salad ingredients I overheard a mother and her teen.

The girl said as she pointed at a bunch of beets, "I have never had an artichoke before."

Her mom replied, "That's not an artichoke."

I laughed and pointed out the big huge artichokes that were right in front of me. "These are artichokes.  Those are beets.  Beets are red."  They both laughed.  Then I said to the mother as the two were walking away, "Perhaps you should buy some and have her try something NEW."

The conversation gave me my DO NEW idea for today.  EAT SOMETHING YOU HAVE NEVER HAD BEFORE.  The problem was that I was so very hungry.  I could have eaten the whole prepared food section of the store.  That is a lot of food.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw the fish department and the accompanying SUSHI cooler.  I took a peak inside and there it was - SUSHI ULTIMATE - BLUEBERRY ROLL.  Raw tuna and blueberries, interesting and very YUMMY. It was a bit pricey but it was far more appealing to me than the octopus.  That would have been another DO NEW, at least in that sauce, but I really don't care for rubbery food.

So in celebration of the solstice and possibly your empty stomach I give you full permission to PLAY with your food today - and EVERYDAY!

Happy DO NEW CHALLENGE.  And when you get a chance please pass the wasabi.
